An update about my book | STFO 🤘
I feel the need to tell you something that has been weighing on me for a few months now. Back in 2022, I announced I was writing a book to help business owners stand the f*ck out.
I knew that writing a *great* book was a mental torture akin to listening to Baby Shark on repeat. I didn’t want to do it alone. I wanted accountability. And I had heard great things about a company called Scribe Media from friends in the industry. So, I paid $36,000 (upfront) to help me write, edit, publish, and promote the book.
Things started off very well.
I had spent six months after the birth of my daughter to (re)build my Stand The F*ck Out methodology from the ground up and I was so pumped to turn it into a book.
Outline? Check. Title? Check. Book cover? Check. First draft? Check. Collecting blurbs from people smarter than me? Check. We agreed to launch the book in December of last year.
And then, in June 2023, Scribe declared bankruptcy. I had no f*cking clue things were that bad; from the outside, they were thriving. Everyone else, including their own employees, had no clue either. No one really knew what was happening behind the scenes. Long story short: there was no money left, they fired most of the staff, and left hundreds of authors like me in the sh*t.
I found out I wouldn’t get my 36 thousand dollars back, so I just decided to move on and recover my losses. I diversified my offering through coaching, consulting, and sponsorship, and it worked.
Which brings me back to the book.
I don’t know why, but I was ashamed. It's almost like I’ve let you down. I lost all momentum and haven’t been able to make any progress over the last few months.
That f*cking 220-page manuscript. I started to HATE it.
Anyway, there’s a happy ending to this story.
Because the universe conspired to publish that book (sorry not sorry). I had just learned that my friend Joe Pulizzi—the content marketing godfather— had partnered up with Lulu Press to launch "a new imprint to provide newsletter creators, podcasters, YouTubers, and other content entrepreneurs a hands-on service to publish their print book, eBook and audiobook."
They were looking for their first 'beta' authors to go through the program. And I didn't hesitate a single second when they asked if I wanted to be a part of it. It seemed like a PURRFECT fit. And I don't use the word 'purrfect' lightly.
Anyway.
All this Scribe drama is now behind me. And, honestly, there are much bigger problems out there. So I've made peace with it, and I’m now ready to work on that second f*cking draft.
This book is going to slap.
I'll keep you updated.
